S’porean Investment Banker-turned Entrepreneur: There Is No Night, No Day, But I’VE No Regrets

The 30-year-old graduated with first-class honours in Business, majoring in fund and marketing, from the National University of Singapore, and snagged a highly-coveted investment banker position at Credit Suisse, where he began fresh out of school. He is also from a family of high-flyers, though he is timid to acknowledge that – his brother visited Harvard and it is a authorities scholar, and his sister is a practising lawyer.
After about two years in, though, Lim made a decision to stop his illustrious financial career and start his own company – however, not for the reasons you would otherwise expect. At Credit Suisse, Lim says he could pull 16-hour times during peak periods, starting at 10am and finishing between 2 and 3am, but learned a complete lot along the way. I had fashioned to do everything myself basically.
And he didn’t complain about the hours, tough as he admits they were. “I mean the job is very challenging, get me wrong don’t. But it’s that I knew I was a bit more entrepreneurial by nature. And so take up a company he do – Lim went on to create a global tech-startup called Vidy, and along with his Canadian co-founder manages a team of roughly 30 now, centered out of San and Shanghai Francisco. 20 largest in existence at the moment.
The genesis of companies often is a story of two friends meeting, and Lim’s was no different. He tells us that he was still at Credit Suisse when his sibling was their studies at Harvard, he told Lim about “a really bright guy (who) has some ideas” who he fulfilled in school.
“THEREFORE I decided to have a chat with him and I came across him to be really really smart; really intelligent. It’s just completely different in terms of the mindset and the thought of what he wished to do. This kicked off an extended process of brainstorming and reiterating business ideas and models between Lim and Colangelo, until two . 5 years ago roughly, when the duo settled on something they hope will revolutionise internet video advertising.

The idea: developing technology to transcribe the spoken (or sung) words (or lyrics, for instance) in a video, and match the clip (or draw out of it) to the written text that appears within an article you may be reading online. The text is highlighted, so when a consumer clicks or keeps onto it, a circle with the video draw out up and begins playing pops. Having began the ongoing company in the U.S.
Colangelo, Lim says their first office was opened in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA in 2016, where they hired experienced and talented technical engineers and programmers focused on focusing on Vidy’s technology. But Lim subsequently opened the company’s first outpost in Shanghai two years ago, where his team works on marketing, publisher partnerships and business development.
